I submit for your inspection “Elizabeth Josephine’s Linguine & Cream Sauce with a Nod & a Wink to Steve Cropper” recipe. Last night here on St. Simons Island, Elizabeth Josephine prepared a Steve Cropper recipe for kicks. Of course, Cropper is a music legend. Among many musical accomplishments, he co-wrote “Sitting On The Dock of the Bay” with Otis Redding. You all know his work…
I interviewed Cropper years ago. That timeless interview can be read in my book, Insured Beyond The Grave. I obtained this recipe (along with 40 others) from Memphis musician Don Nix’s book, Road Stories and Recipes, which I wrote about in Insured Beyond The Grave Vol. 2. I heard of Nix’s book through Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes (another story in Insured Beyond The Grave Vol. 2).
Elizabeth handled most of the cooking. I did some prep work, but not much. She ranks as a cook of the highest order. Some of her homemade dishes she’s cooked for me include pizza alla Puttanesca, venison spaghetti, potato leek soup, greens, black-eyed peas & pork chops and cornbread. Her cornbread ranks in the Top 3 I’ve ever eaten.
Cropper’s recipe is simple. And you can read his notes…
