Arkansas born, Craig Brewer’s Black Snake Moan exists as a fine film. Samuel L. Jackson added another great performance to his repertoire. Christina Ricci, covered only by a sleeveless-belly t-shirt for most of the film, gives a great performance of a tormented character.
Every actor in this film shines. Black Snake Moan tells a redemptive story in the modern day south with characters who are in no way motivated by money or shallow materialism. The film’s soundtrack includes music by the North Mississippi All-Stars, Junior Kimbrough, R. L. Burnside, The Black Keys, Son House, Precious Bryant, Jesse Mae Hemphill, Bobby Rush and even two compositions penned by Sam L. Jackson himself.
Black Snake Moan proves worth watching.
